Sri Lanka has been a major supplier of sapphires to the world gem markets for hundreds of years. 'Ceylon' blue sapphires are famous for their cornflower blue colour and their fine quality. Sri Lankan blue sapphires come in a wide variety of shades of blue, from an almost white, very pale blue colour, to a rich deep royal blue colour.
