During the early 90's Pailin was one of the world's most important sources of blue sapphires. In recent years mining at Pailin has mostly been carried out on a small scale, making fine Pailin sapphires hard to come by. The quality of sapphires from Pailin is comparable with those found in other regions. There are many fine stones which come from the Pailin deposit in Cambodia.
